⚠️ Who this one is for

• This scholarship is ONLY for the dependent wards of State and Union Territory Police personnel who were MARTYRED during terror or naxal attacks. It has been running for this group since the 2019-20 academic session.
• It is not for police families generally, and not for personnel who died in other circumstances.
• The Ministry of Home Affairs runs a companion scheme under the same guideline for wards and widows of Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles personnel — that one has 2,000 places and much wider eligibility. The Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Defence each run further schemes of the same name.
• Applying under the wrong one is a rejected application, not a redirected one.

What you get

• Paid annually after selection, for the duration of the course — up to five years, depending on the course and its regulator.
• Everyone selected under the fresh category also receives a personal letter from the Prime Minister, in an appropriate language.

The 500 places, and why half cannot move

• 500 scholarships are granted each academic year for this group, in addition to the 2,000 under the CAPF and Assam Rifles scheme.
• ⚠️ They are split 250 for boys and 250 for girls, and the two quotas are NOT interchangeable — a shortfall in one is not transferred to the other.

Who can apply

• You must be a dependent ward of a State or UT Police person martyred during a terror or naxal attack.
• You must be pursuing a FIRST professional degree programme.
• At least 60% marks in the Minimum Entry Qualification for your course. For renewals, you must instead pass each subsequent year with at least 50%.
• ⚠️ The scholarship is admissible for only TWO children per family.
• There is no rank restriction for this category. Your marital status does not affect eligibility.
• There is NO family income limit on this scheme — the guideline sets none.
• A ward is still considered under this scheme even if a spouse or next-of-kin received a compassionate appointment.

Which courses, and what counts as your Minimum Entry Qualification

• Only FIRST professional degree courses, recognised by the relevant regulator (AICTE, MCI, UGC and similar) — Engineering, Medicine, Dental, Veterinary, BBA, BCA, B.Pharma, B.Sc (Nursing, Agriculture etc.), MBA and MCA.
• The Minimum Entry Qualification differs by course, and 60% is measured in whichever one applies to yours.
• Students admitted to the 2nd year of a technical or professional bachelor's degree through LATERAL ENTRY after a diploma are eligible.
• If you passed class 12 from CBSE, the percentage is calculated on your best five subjects out of 500.

• Fresh applications are shortlisted in this order of preference.

How to apply

1. Apply online on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at https://scholarships.gov.in/ — it is the only route. Applications sent directly to the ministry or the institute are not accepted.
2. One Time Registration (OTR) comes first. You register once at https://scholarships.gov.in/otrapplication/ with Aadhaar-based e-KYC and get an OTR number, then use it for this and every other NSP scholarship, this year and in later years.
3. There is no application fee.
4. The scholarship is credited directly into your own bank account, so keep it active and Aadhaar-seeded.

The deadlines that follow yours

• Your deadline is the first of four. The three after it belong to your institute and to the verifying officers, and the schedule is published by NSP.
• ⚠️ An application your institute never verifies is not an application. Submit early and then confirm with your institute that they have verified it.
