More information
This one pays you to prepare for the exams on this site
| Exams coached for | Examples |
|---|---|
| Group A and B examinations | UPSC, SSC, the Railway Recruitment Boards, and the State Public Service Commissions |
| Officers' Grade examinations | Banks, insurance companies and public sector undertakings |
| Premier entrance examinations | Engineering (IIT-JEE), medical (NEET), management (CAT), law (CLAT) |
| Eligibility tests | SAT, GRE, GMAT, IELTS, TOEFL |
| Defence and aviation entrances | National Defence Academy, Combined Defence Services, CPL courses |
- The scheme buys you a place on a coaching course at a Central University and pays you a stipend while you take it. It is not a scholarship for a degree.
What you get
| Component | What is paid |
|---|---|
| Course fee | Paid in full, at the rate set for the course in Annexure-A of the guidelines |
| Stipend | ₹4,000 per month, for the full duration, up to 12 months |
| Interview incentive | ₹15,000 for clearing the Mains stage of Central or State Civil Services exams for Class 1 and Class 2 posts |
- Everything is paid by DBT into your Aadhaar-seeded bank account, in two instalments of 50% — the first when the course starts, the second after more than 75% of it is done. You must pass the fee portion on to the university within 15 days.
Who can apply
- SC and OBC students with total family income of ₹8,00,000 or less per year from all sources.
- ✓ Beneficiaries of the PM CARES Children Scheme holding a certificate with a beneficiary ID from the Central Government are eligible with NO income and NO caste restriction at all — and are admitted by the Central University even beyond the 100 slots allotted to them.
- You need a valid Aadhaar number and a bank account seeded with it. An EID number is accepted at application, but no money is paid until the Aadhaar number is provided.
- ⚠️ You may take the benefit not more than TWICE, whatever the number of attempts you are entitled to at that exam and however many stages it has. You must declare this.
- ⚠️ You may not be availing any other coaching scheme of the Central or a State Government. The list of beneficiaries is published on the Ministry's website.
The marks you need — it depends which exam you are preparing for
- If the exam's qualifying level is CLASS 12 — engineering and medical entrances, NDA and the like — you must have passed class 12 or be studying in class 12 when you receive the benefit, and you must have at least 50% in your CLASS 10 exam.
- If the exam's qualifying level is a DEGREE — UPSC, SSC, banking, CAT, CLAT and the like — you must have completed your under-graduate course or be in its final year, and you must have at least 50% in your CLASS 12 exam.
- ⚠️ Our automatic eligibility check does not test either cut-off. It reads the marks of your HIGHEST passed qualification, and these rules ask about a specific earlier exam — comparing the wrong one would fail people who actually qualify. Read the two rules above against your own marksheets.
How places are allotted, and how attendance is checked
- 3,500 students are selected each year. Under each category, 30% of the slots are reserved for women. Where enough SC candidates are not available, Dr Ambedkar Foundation can relax the split.
- Coaching is delivered by Central Universities, which advertise and admit against the slots allotted to them.
- ⚠️ Attendance is recorded by Aadhaar-based biometrics and reported monthly. Absent for more than four days in a month without an acceptable reason — medical or a household emergency — and your candidature is cancelled.
How to apply
- Apply online on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at https://scholarships.gov.in/ — it is the only route. Applications sent directly to the ministry or the institute are not accepted.
- One Time Registration (OTR) comes first. You register once at https://scholarships.gov.in/otrapplication/ with Aadhaar-based e-KYC and get an OTR number, then use it for this and every other NSP scholarship, this year and in later years.
- There is no application fee.
- After you submit, your institute verifies the application, and then the district/state/ministry nodal officer verifies it. Both happen after the student deadline and neither is something you can do for them — submit early enough that they have time.
- This scheme opened later than most on the portal — 3 August 2026, against 1 June for the others — but closes on the same date.
The deadlines that follow yours
| Stage | Last date |
|---|---|
| Student application | 31 October 2026 |
| Defective application verification | 15 November 2026 |
| Institute verification | 15 November 2026 |
| DNO / SNO / MNO verification | 30 November 2026 |
- Your deadline is the first of four. The three after it belong to your institute and to the verifying officers, and the schedule is published by NSP.
- ⚠️ An application your institute never verifies is not an application. Submit early and then confirm with your institute that they have verified it.
