What you get
- ₹50,000 per year, paid as a lump sum by DBT into your own bank account, towards college fees, a computer, stationery, books, equipment and software. No bills are required.
- Degree students admitted to the first year get it for up to 4 years; through lateral entry into the second year, up to 3 years. Diploma students get up to 3 years, or 2 through lateral entry.
- Nothing additional is paid in place of hostel or medical charges.
Who can apply
- You must be admitted to the first year of a degree or diploma course, or to the second year through lateral entry, at an AICTE-approved institution.
- ⚠️ You must have a disability of not less than 40%. This is the condition that defines the scheme, and our eligibility check cannot verify it from your profile — read it against your own disability certificate.
- Family income from all sources must not be more than ₹8,00,000 in the current financial year. A valid income certificate issued by the State/UT government is required.
How many are awarded
- There is no cap. Every eligible specially-abled student admitted to the first year, or to the second year through lateral entry, at an AICTE-approved institution gets the scholarship.
How to apply
- Apply online on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at https://scholarships.gov.in/ — it is the only route. Applications sent directly to the ministry or the institute are not accepted.
- One Time Registration (OTR) comes first. You register once at https://scholarships.gov.in/otrapplication/ with Aadhaar-based e-KYC and get an OTR number, then use it for this and every other NSP scholarship, this year and in later years.
- There is no application fee.
- After you submit, your institute verifies the application, and then the district/state/ministry nodal officer verifies it. Both happen after the student deadline and neither is something you can do for them — submit early enough that they have time.
- AICTE also publishes a notice on https://www.aicte-india.org when the cycle opens. The dates that govern the application are the NSP ones on this page.
