More information
⚠️ This one closes on 31 August, not 31 October
- Pre-Matric is the shortest window the Department runs — it opened on 25 July 2026 and closes on 31 August 2026. The Post-Matric and Top Class components of the same umbrella scheme stay open until 31 October.
What you get
| Component | What is paid |
|---|---|
| Maintenance allowance — hosteller | ₹800 per month |
| Maintenance allowance — day-scholar | ₹500 per month |
| Disability allowance — visual impairment or intellectual disability | ₹4,000 per year |
| Disability allowance — all other types of disability | ₹2,000 per year |
| Book allowance | ₹1,000 per year |
- Paid by DBT. The listed ₹800 is the monthly maintenance allowance for hostellers; a day-scholar gets ₹500 a month, and both get the allowances below on top.
Who can apply
- You must be a regular, full-time student in class IX or class X, at a Government school or a school recognised by the Government or by a Central or State Board of Secondary Education.
- Parental income from all sources must not exceed ₹2,50,000 per year.
Conditions that apply to every DEPwD scholarship
- Open only to Indian nationals with a benchmark disability — 40% or more, as defined in the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 — holding a valid disability certificate from the competent authority.
- Not more than two children with disabilities of the same parents will be awarded. Where the second child is a twin, the scholarship is admissible to the twin as well.
- ⚠️ Scholarship for any one class is available for one year only. If you have to repeat a class, you do not get the scholarship for that class a second time.
- ⚠️ You may not hold any other scholarship or stipend at the same time as this one.
- 50% of the slots are reserved for female candidates. Where enough eligible women are not available, those slots pass to other candidates.
- ⚠️ The slot count includes RENEWALS. Fresh cases are considered only against the slots left over after every renewal has been processed — so meeting the eligibility criteria does not by itself entitle you to the scholarship. Slots can also be moved between the pre-matric, post-matric and Top Class components if one of them is under-subscribed.
How to apply
- Apply online on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at https://scholarships.gov.in/ — it is the only route. Applications sent directly to the ministry or the institute are not accepted.
- One Time Registration (OTR) comes first. You register once at https://scholarships.gov.in/otrapplication/ with Aadhaar-based e-KYC and get an OTR number, then use it for this and every other NSP scholarship, this year and in later years.
- There is no application fee.
- After you submit, your institute verifies the application, and then the district/state/ministry nodal officer verifies it. Both happen after the student deadline and neither is something you can do for them — submit early enough that they have time.
The deadlines that follow yours
| Stage | Last date |
|---|---|
| Student application | 31 August 2026 |
| Defective application verification | 15 September 2026 |
| Institute verification | 15 September 2026 |
| DNO / SNO / MNO verification | 30 September 2026 |
- Your deadline is the first of four. The three after it belong to your institute and to the verifying officers, and the schedule is published by NSP.
- ⚠️ An application your institute never verifies is not an application. Submit early and then confirm with your institute that they have verified it.
