Who can apply

• Unmarried male candidates with an engineering degree in one of the notified streams.
• Age 20 to 27 years as on 01 April 2027.
• Only the engineering streams listed in the notification are accepted — a degree in any other stream is not eligible.
• Final-year students may apply, but must submit proof of passing with all semester marksheets by 01 April 2027.

1. Application → shortlisting → SSB interview → medical → merit list → joining letter.
2. Cut-off percentage for shortlisting is published in the first week of September 2026.
3. SSB: five days, between October and December 2026. Choice of centre and dates opens for two weeks in September 2026.

How to apply

1. Applications are accepted ONLINE only, on www.joinindianarmy.nic.in.
2. Only one application per candidate — multiple submissions get the candidature cancelled.
3. Queries are entertained only up to 3 days before the window closes.

Who can apply

• Unmarried men with an engineering degree in one of the notified streams.
• Age 20 to 27 years as on 01 April 2027 — that is, born between 01 April 2000 and 31 March 2007, both dates included.
• Age is taken ONLY from the date of birth on the matriculation or secondary school certificate. No other document is accepted and no later change is entertained.
• Nationality: citizen of India, or of Nepal, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or the listed East African countries intending to settle permanently in India — the last two need an eligibility certificate from the Government of India. Gorkha subjects of Nepal do not.
• Final-year students may apply, but only if the final examination is scheduled ON OR BEFORE 01 April 2027. If your last exam falls after that date you are not eligible for this course.
• Vacancies are listed stream by stream in paragraph 3 of the notification — only the engineering streams named there, and their accepted equivalents, are valid.

Physical standards before joining the academy

• 2.4 km run in 10 minutes 30 seconds.
• 40 push-ups.
• 6 pull-ups.
• 30 sit-ups.
• Squats: 30 repetitions × 2 sets.
• Lunges: 10 repetitions × 2 sets.
• Swimming: basic knowledge expected.

Selection, and the dates to watch

• The sequence is: apply → shortlisting on cut-off percentage → SSB interview → medical → merit list → joining letter. There is no written exam.
• The shortlisting cut-off percentage is published in the first week of September 2026.
• SSB is a five-day interview held between October and December 2026. The window to choose your SSB dates and centre stays open for two weeks in September 2026.
• For the SSB you must carry the degree or provisional degree and the marksheets of every semester or year.
• Any mismatch between the engineering stream on your degree and the stream entered in the online application CANCELS your candidature.
• Any variation between your name or your parents' names across educational documents needs an affidavit explaining it.

Training, pay and how long the commission runs

• Pre-commission training at the Officers Training Academy, Gaya, Bihar — 49 weeks, April 2027 to March 2028.
• Stipend during training: ₹56,100 per month.
• Rank on completion: Lieutenant.
• Cost to company on commissioning: approximately ₹17–18 lakh per year, and that figure excludes free medical cover and one home-town journey a year.
• Short Service Commission runs for a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of 14.
• Release options at 5, 10 and 14 years. Permanent commission may be opted for after 10 years.
• A final-year candidate who fails to produce the degree within 12 weeks of training starting is liable to be bonded for the cost of training, and the stipend, pay and allowances paid can be recovered.
