More information
⚠️ The rule that defines this scholarship: study OUTSIDE your home state
- The National Talent Scholarship is for a student admitted through the All India Entrance Examination to an Agricultural University located OUTSIDE their own State of domicile. Studying in your home state disqualifies you, however good your rank.
- ⚠️ Our automatic eligibility check cannot test this one. It compares your profile against fixed values, and "the state you study in must differ from the state you live in" is a comparison between two of your own fields — read this condition yourself.
- This is also not a means-tested award. The guideline sets no family income ceiling at all, so a high income does not exclude you.
What you get
| Programme | Per month |
|---|---|
| Bachelor’s (under-graduate) | ₹2,000 |
| Master’s (post-graduate) | ₹3,000 |
- Paid monthly, from the month you join, to the end of the degree programme.
- ⚠️ No contingency grant is paid, and ICAR does not pay you directly. The money goes to the head of your college or institute, who verifies your documents and then transfers it to your bank account by DBT.
Conditions you must keep, or the scholarship stops
- Study whole-time. You may NOT take a job, not even a part-time one.
- You may not accept any other scholarship during the course.
- You may not change the subject you were awarded the scholarship for.
- Leaving the course within one month of admission means no scholarship is paid at all.
- Absence without prior permission, or taking part in any agitation or strike, breaks the conditions — and no scholarship is paid for the period of a strike.
- Leaving the course before it finishes needs prior approval; the scholarship ends the day you cease to be on the roll, and an amount already paid may have to be refunded.
The marks you must keep up
- You must clear promotion to the next class and maintain a minimum OGPA/CGPA out of 10.00. For SC and ST students that minimum is 6.50 out of 10.00.
- ⚠️ The general-category threshold is illegible in the copy of the guideline published on the portal, so we are not printing a number for it. Ask your university or ICAR — do not assume it is the same as the SC/ST figure.
- The threshold is checked at the end of the first year of study and NO relaxation is given.
- A CGPA rule cannot be entered into the automatic eligibility check on this page, which works in percentages; converting between the two invents a number you never claimed.
How to apply
- Apply online on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at https://scholarships.gov.in/ — it is the only route. Applications sent directly to the ministry or the institute are not accepted.
- One Time Registration (OTR) comes first. You register once at https://scholarships.gov.in/otrapplication/ with Aadhaar-based e-KYC and get an OTR number, then use it for this and every other NSP scholarship, this year and in later years.
- There is no application fee.
- After you submit, your institute verifies the application, and then the district/state/ministry nodal officer verifies it. Both happen after the student deadline and neither is something you can do for them — submit early enough that they have time.
- ICAR runs three further schemes on the same window: the ICAR Post Graduate Scholarship (PGS) and ICAR Junior and Senior Research Fellowships, both under a separate guideline.
The deadlines that follow yours
| Stage | Last date |
|---|---|
| Student application | 31 October 2026 |
| Defective application verification | 15 November 2026 |
| Institute verification | 15 November 2026 |
| DNO / SNO / MNO verification | 30 November 2026 |
- Your deadline is the first of four. The three after it belong to your institute and to the verifying officers, and the schedule is published by NSP.
- ⚠️ An application your institute never verifies is not an application. Submit early and then confirm with your institute that they have verified it.
