What the cabinet actually decided

On 20 July 2026 the Himachal Pradesh cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, approved filling more than 7,500 government posts.
The approvals span the Education, Health, Police and Panchayati Raj departments.
Recruitment will be conducted through the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) and the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog (State Selection Commission) — so the advertisements will appear on those two bodies' websites, not on a single portal.
A cabinet approval is the step that lets a department raise a requisition. It is not the recruitment, and the gap between the two has historically been months, not weeks.

Department-wise numbers reported from the briefing

Education Department: 3,950 posts of Chowkidar and Multi-Task Worker in senior secondary schools.
Education Department: 200 posts of Junior Office Assistant (Library).
Health Department: 280 posts of Technical Assistant.
Police Department: 102 new posts sanctioned for the Nurpur Police District.
Panchayati Raj Department: posts approved, with the count not detailed in the briefing.
These add to well under 7,500 — the remainder was approved without a public post-wise breakdown, which is normal for a cabinet note and is exactly why the advertisements matter more than the headline number.

Two other decisions that change who can apply

A one-year relaxation in the upper age limit for police recruitment was approved. If you aged out of an HP police recruitment by a year, check this before assuming you are ineligible.
Merit-based recruitment of teachers in CBSE-affiliated government schools was approved, with appointments to be made strictly on merit.
Alongside these, the ASHA workers' monthly honorarium was raised from ₹5,800 to ₹6,800 and Numberdars' from ₹4,500 to ₹5,000 — welfare decisions rather than recruitment, but from the same meeting.

What is NOT announced

The application start and last dates, the fee, and the apply-online link.
Educational qualification and age limits for each post — the Chowkidar/MTW posts and the Junior Office Assistant (Library) posts will not share a qualification.
Whether each cadre is filled through HPPSC or through the Rajya Chayan Aayog.
The category-wise and district-wise break-up.
Written exam pattern, syllabus and any physical standards for the police posts.

Worth doing before the advertisements land

Get your Himachal Pradesh bonafide certificate current. State recruitments are domicile-gated and this is the certificate that takes the longest.
Have caste, EWS, IRDP/BPL and PwD certificates issued or renewed now if you will claim any of them.
For the Education Department posts, keep matriculation and Class 12 certificates and any library-science qualification scanned.
Watch hppsc.hp.gov.in and the Rajya Chayan Aayog site directly. With two recruiting bodies and several departments, the advertisements will come out separately rather than as one drive.
