Who can apply
- Passed 10th / Matriculation (under the 10+2 system) with at least 50% marks in aggregate from a recognised board.
- AND an ITI certificate / National Trade Certificate in the relevant trade, affiliated to NCVT or SCVT.
- Age 15 to 24 years as on 07.07.2026.
- Age relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, 10 years for persons with benchmark disability, and up to 10 additional years for ex-servicemen.
How you are selected
- There is no written exam. Selection is on a merit list built from your 10th and ITI marks.
- Merit lists are prepared unit-wise, trade-wise and community-wise.
- Final selection is subject to verification of original documents.
Training and stipend
- Apprenticeship training runs for one year.
- A stipend is paid during training at the rate prescribed by the concerned State Government and Railway Board instructions.
- This is a training engagement under the Apprentices Act 1961 — it does not by itself create a claim to railway employment.
How to apply
- Apply online at https://www.rrcpryj.org. Applications by any other mode are not accepted.
- Application fee: ₹100, non-refundable.
Age, and the exact date-of-birth window
- You must have completed 15 years and NOT completed 24 years as on 07.07.2026.
- Born between 07.07.2002 and 07.07.2011 — Unreserved (UR).
- Born between 07.07.1997 and 07.07.2011 — SC and ST (five years' relaxation).
- Born between 07.07.1999 and 07.07.2011 — OBC (three years' relaxation).
- PwBD: upper age relaxed by 10 years. Ex-servicemen: relaxed by up to 10 years plus service rendered, provided at least six months was served at a stretch.
Qualification — and who is NOT eligible
- You must have passed 10th / SSC / Matriculation with a minimum of 50 per cent in aggregate from a recognised board.
- You must ALREADY hold an ITI certificate / National Trade Certificate (NCVT or SCVT) in the relevant trade as on the notification date, 07.07.2026.
- Applicants whose 10th or ITI result is still awaited on 07.07.2026 are not eligible.
- Anyone who failed ITI must not apply — an engagement made by mistake is terminated and the stipend recovered with interest.
- Engineering graduates and diploma holders are NOT eligible under this notification; a separate apprenticeship scheme governs them.

- Fitter · Welder · Armature Winder · Machinist · Wireman · Electrician · Painter.
- Mechanic (DSL) · Turner · Plumber · Carpenter / Wood Work Technician · Draughtsman (Civil).
- Computer Networking Technician · Mechanic cum Operator Electronics Communication System · Electrical and Electronics.
- Information & Communication Technology System Maintenance · Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA) · Multimedia and Web Page Designer.
- Health Sanitary Inspector · Stenographer (English) · Stenographer (Hindi).
- The ITI trade must match the designated trade you apply for; trade-wise and division-wise slot counts with the SC/ST/OBC/EWS break-up are in Annexure A of the notification.
Fee, reservation and certificate dates
- Application fee ₹100, non-refundable, paid online by card or net banking as part of the application.
- NO fee for SC, ST, PwBD and female applicants.
- 1,853 training slots across Head Quarter, TMC/Line, the Prayagraj, Agra and Jhansi divisions and the Jhansi workshop, for 2026-27. The Railway states the numbers are provisional and may rise or fall.
- Horizontal reservation: 4 per cent for PwBD and 3 per cent for ex-servicemen, counted inside the notified slots rather than added to them.
- OBC applicants: the non-creamy-layer certificate must be in the central government format, issued on or after 01.04.2026 and valid for 2026-27, plus the self-declaration in Annexure D.
- EWS: family gross annual income below ₹8 lakh, on an Income and Asset Certificate from one of the authorities the notification names, valid as on the closing date.
- An SC slot with no SC applicant goes to ST and vice versa; if neither can be filled it goes to unreserved, and unfilled OBC slots go to unreserved.
