Who can apply
- Passed Matriculation (Class 10) or equivalent with at least 50% marks in aggregate.
- AND an ITI pass certificate / NTC / STC from NCVT or SCVT in the relevant trade — you must already hold it as on the notification date. Having finished the course is not enough; the certificate has to be in hand.
- Age 15 to 24 years as on 19 August 2026, the closing date.
- Upper age relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, 10 years for PwBD, and for ex-servicemen the service rendered plus 3 years (minimum 6 months continuous service).
- One application per candidate. You pick your Unit–Department–Trade preferences in order inside that one form.

- NFR states these slot numbers are provisional and may go up or down when selection is finalised.
- EWS candidates get 10% reservation under Railway Board RBE 21/2019.
How you are selected
- There is no written exam. Merit is the average of your Matriculation percentage and your ITI marks in the trade applied for.
- For Laboratory Technician (Pathology) and Laboratory Technician (Radiology), merit uses Matriculation plus Class 12 Science marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology instead of ITI marks.
- All subjects count — the calculation is never on a selected group of subjects. For ITI, the average across all semesters on the consolidated marks statement is used.
- Ties are broken by age: the older candidate ranks higher. If dates of birth are also identical, whoever passed matriculation earlier goes first.
- Candidates are called for document verification at 1.5 times the number of slots, unit by unit.
- You are considered for only ONE Unit–Department–Trade combination. Once selected against a higher preference, every lower preference is cancelled automatically.
- Declaring marks falsely means summary disqualification.
Fee — five groups pay nothing
- ₹100, non-refundable, paid online through the payment gateway linked in the notification.
- SC, ST, PwBD, EBC and ALL women candidates are exempt — they pay nothing.
- EBC exemption requires family income below ₹50,000 a year, with the prescribed certificate.
- If payment succeeds but the application will not download, use the 'Verify Payment' button on the site to reconfirm before paying again.
Before you apply — what an apprenticeship is and is not
- Training under the Apprentices Act 1961 confers NO right to a railway job by itself. Under the Apprenticeship Rules 1992, the employer is not obliged to offer employment when training ends, and the contract terminates on completion.
- There is a real advantage though: 20% of Level-1 (erstwhile Group D) vacancies are filled with preference to course-completed Act Apprentices who hold an NCVT National Apprenticeship Certificate, subject to qualifying the written exam.
- Final candidates must produce original testimonials and a medical certificate in the prescribed format.
- Canvassing in any form disqualifies you.

- Window: 20 July 2026 from 09:00 to 19 August 2026 until 17:30. The closing time is 5:30 pm, not midnight.
- Read the trade list against your own ITI trade before you start — the preference order you enter decides which unit you can be allotted to.
