Age — the reference date is different for each post
- Minimum age is 18 for every post. The maximum is counted on a reference date that CHANGES by post, which is unusual and easy to get wrong:
- Health Supervisor · Multipurpose Health Worker · Veterinary/Medical Assistant — age counted as on 1 August 2023.
- Insect Collector · Fisheries Technical Assistant — as on 1 August 2024.
- Junior Regional Investigator — as on 1 August 2025.
- Maximum age (per Personnel Department resolution 03 of 2 January 2026): Unreserved 35 · EWS 35 · EBC Annexure-I and BC Annexure-II men 37 · women of UR/EWS/EBC-I/BC-II 38 · SC and ST, both men and women, 40.
- Persons with disability get 10 extra years on the maximum, in every category. Ex-servicemen get 5. You may use only ONE of these two relaxations, not both.
Preliminary exam — 60 of 120 questions are about Jharkhand
| Two hours, 120 multiple-choice questions | General Studies 30 · knowledge of Jharkhand State 60 · General Mathematics 10 · General Science 10 · Mental Ability 10. |
| Half the paper is Jharkhand | its geography, history, culture, language and literature, mines and minerals, industry, its role in the national movement, development schemes, sportspeople and civic achievements. Preparing this state section is the exam. |
| General Mathematics is at matriculation / Class 10 level. | |
| Minimum qualifying marks in the prelims | UR and EWS 40% · EBC Annexure-I 34% · BC Annexure-II 36.5% · SC, ST and women 32% · Primitive Tribe 30%. |
Main exam — three papers, and Paper 1 does not count toward merit
- Candidates are called for the main exam at 15 times the vacancies, in category-wise merit order. Anyone tying with the last selected candidate in their category also goes through.
- Three papers, two hours each. Every question carries 3 marks, and 1 mark is deducted for every wrong answer.
- Paper 1 — Language: 60 Hindi + 60 English questions (each language: 20 on an unseen passage, 40 on grammar). Minimum 30% to pass. It is QUALIFYING ONLY — its marks are not added to your merit. Score below 30% and you are out regardless of the other two papers.
- Paper 2 — Regional / tribal language: 100 questions in one language you choose from Hindi, English, Urdu, Santhali, Bangla, Mundari (Munda), Ho, Kharia, Kurukh (Oraon), Kurmali, Khortha, Nagpuri, Panchparganiya, Odia or Sanskrit. Minimum 30%.
- Paper 3 — General knowledge, 120 questions: General Studies 30 · Jharkhand 40 · General Science 20 · General Mathematics 10 · Mental Ability 10 · Computer knowledge 10. Minimum 30%.
- Final merit = Paper 2 + Paper 3 only, for candidates who cleared Paper 1's 30%.
Examination fee
- ₹100 for general candidates.
- ₹50 for SC and ST candidates OF JHARKHAND STATE. A candidate outside that concession who pays the reduced fee has their application cancelled and candidature terminated.
- Full exemption for divyang candidates of Jharkhand with 40% or more disability.
- An application submitted without paying the fee is not accepted and can be cancelled. The fee is non-refundable.
Certificates — where most rejections happen
| Local resident (domicile) certificate | one issued before 19 July 2019 at Circle Officer (Anchaladhikari) level is NOT valid, and one issued before 2 June 2016 at any level is NOT valid. It must be on the format given in the brochure's appendix. |
| A domicile certificate in your father's or husband's name is accepted; if it is on the husband's basis and your name differs across documents, an affidavit to that effect is compulsory at scrutiny. | |
| SC/ST caste certificate | from the Deputy Commissioner or Sub-divisional Officer on Appendix-I, OR from the Circle Officer on or after 25 February 2019 on Appendix-II, OR on or after 10 May 2023 on Appendix-III. |
| EBC (Annexure-I) and BC (Annexure-II) | a non-creamy-layer certificate issued on or after 29 August 2012 by the Deputy Commissioner or SDO, on Appendix-IV. |
| Disability certificate | from the state's competent medical board, on Appendix-X, showing 40% or more. One on a different form, from a different authority, or ISSUED AFTER THE LAST DATE OF APPLICATION is not valid. If it does not match the claim in your form, your candidature is cancelled. |
| Sports quota | a second or third place in a national competition of the Indian Olympic Association or an affiliated federation, OR first place in a Jharkhand Olympic Association state championship, OR a national record. Resolution 1709 of 12 September 2007 is on the commission's site. |
| Scribe | candidates with 40%+ blindness or low vision, locomotor disability affecting both arms, or cerebral palsy get a scribe on request plus 20 extra minutes per hour. Other disability categories get one against a CMO / Civil Surgeon certificate on Appendix-XI. |
How to apply
- Apply online at https://jssc.jharkhand.gov.in after logging in. There is no other route.
- Correction window: 21 August 2026 to midnight of 23 August 2026, when the form reopens to fix wrong entries.
- Check that your name, father's name and other details match across every certificate BEFORE you fill the form — get them corrected first, not later.
- Being allowed to sit the exam is provisional. An admit card is not proof of eligibility — the commission verifies certificates after the main exam and can reject you then.
