Who can apply
- An ITI pass certificate in the trade you apply for — the notification lists the exact trade names, and applying for a trade your ITI is not in gets the application rejected.
- Age 18 to 24 years as on 19 August 2026, the closing date for online applications.
- Age relaxation on the upper limit: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, 10 years for persons with benchmark disability.
- You are NOT eligible if you have already done — or are currently doing — apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act 1961 anywhere, government, PSU or private, whether you finished it or not.
- SC/ST/OBC (NCL) candidates need a caste certificate in the prescribed Central Government format, valid as on 19 August 2026.

Stipend and training
- ₹11,040 per month if your ITI course was 2 years long — Fitter, Turner, Machinist, Machinist (Grinder), Electrician, Wireman, Mechanical Machine Tool Maintenance, Electronic Mechanic, Instrument Mechanic.
- ₹10,560 per month if your ITI course was 1 year long — Draughtsman (Mechanical), Mechanic Refrigeration & AC, Plumber, Welder, Horticulture, Carpenter, Mason and the rest.
- Rates are set by the Apprenticeship (Amendment) Rules 2025 gazette notification G.S.R. 610(E) dated 3 September 2025, not by IGCAR.
- Training runs for one year at IGCAR, Kalpakkam, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu 603102.
- Hostel accommodation is offered on a chargeable basis, subject to availability.
How you are selected
- There is no written exam. Shortlisting is on the percentage of marks in your ITI course.
- If two candidates tie on ITI percentage, the higher 10th-class percentage wins — 8th class instead for Welder, Carpenter / Wood Work Technician, Mason / Civil Mistry and Plumber.
- If that also ties, the candidate born earlier is placed higher.
- A trade-wise selected list is published on www.igcar.gov.in under Opportunities → Recruitment. All correspondence happens there, so check it periodically.
- Shortlisted candidates must attend document verification — not turning up cancels the candidature.
- Engagement is subject to passing the prescribed standard medical examination, and selected candidates must submit a police verification certificate from their local police station at document verification.
How to apply
- Register FIRST at https://www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in and get your registration number (it looks like AXXXXXXXXXX). An application without that number is not accepted — this is the step people miss.
- Aadhaar e-KYC verification on that portal is mandatory, and the email and mobile you register there are the ones to enter in the application.
- Then apply online at www.igcar.gov.in under Opportunities → Recruitment, open from 20 July 2026 to 19 August 2026.
- Applications are accepted online only. Carry a printout of the submitted form plus originals and one set of self-attested photocopies to document verification.
