Physical standards — no marks, but failing them disqualifies you
| The advertisement is explicit | no marks are awarded for height, chest or weight, but a candidate who does not meet the standard is declared failed. |

How the selection actually works
- Two written stages — a preliminary exam and a main exam — followed by a physical efficiency test.
- Preliminary: one paper, 100 objective questions, 200 marks, 2 hours, 2 marks per correct answer. Subjects are English, general knowledge, Hindi, reasoning and current affairs.
- Score below 30 per cent in the preliminary and you are not considered for the main exam at all.
- Up to ten times the number of vacancies are shortlisted for the main exam, category-wise on merit — fewer if not enough qualified candidates are available.
- If the preliminary runs in more than one shift, marks are normalised by the equi-percentile method.
- Main exam, Paper 1: objective, 200 marks in 180 minutes, 1 mark per correct answer and 0.25 DEDUCTED per wrong answer.
- Paper 1 split: general studies and current affairs 50, mathematics and quantitative aptitude 40, reasoning and analytical ability 40, English 20, Hindi 20.
- Main exam, Paper 2: 60 minutes, 50 marks.
All 150 vacancies, category by category
- Unreserved (General): 60 posts, of which 21 are reserved for women.
- Economically Weaker Section (EWS): 15 posts, of which 5 for women.
- Extremely Backward Class (EBC): 27 posts, of which 9 for women.
- Scheduled Caste (SC): 24 posts, of which 8 for women.
- Backward Class (BC): 18 posts, of which 6 for women.
- Backward Class women (separate category): 4 posts.
- Scheduled Tribe (ST): 2 posts.
- Grandchildren of Bihar freedom fighters: 3 posts, horizontal (2 per cent).
- Women get 35 per cent horizontal reservation inside every category — and only Bihar-domiciled women qualify for it (General Administration Department resolution 12575 of 09.07.2025).
- Any reservation benefit, the women's 35 per cent included, applies ONLY to Bihar domiciles. A candidate from another state must apply as Unreserved and is judged on unreserved age limits, or the application is rejected.
- EWS claims need an income and asset certificate based on financial year 2025-26, valid one year from issue.
After selection — medical and character verification
- Every selected candidate goes through a medical examination plus character and antecedent verification by the appointing authority, the Deputy Inspector General (Special Branch).
- The medical checks eyesight, colour blindness, hearing, and includes checks for stammering, flat foot and knock-knee.
- Stammering or stuttering makes a candidate ineligible for selection, stated explicitly in the advertisement.
- A pending criminal case in court, or a conviction, makes a candidate ineligible for appointment.
- Cut-off date for age, education, other eligibility and ex-servicemen age computation: 01 August 2025.
